Ariel is a nutty smallish Husky at 38 lbs, who was rescued from a messed up situation. (Reportedly, being abused in a parking lot at a retail store). A concerned person got her out of there and reached out for help as they were not able to keep her due being in extremely poor health themselves. Upon coming into foster care, it was found she had two severe ear infections and had to undergo surgery in both ears to have it treated. At her last follow up, the ears both appear to be doing much better now, and she has finished her course of antibiotics. It is unknown whether both ears will stand straight up again the way that Siberian Husky ears normally do, she does appear to have her hearing intact, per the vet. Either way, she's still a doll.
She's been brought current on all vaccines and monthly preventatives, is low heartworm positive. She was treated for a bacterial skin infection parasites and a slight case of mange, all which have been resolved. The vet states he believes she was already spayed at some point prior to being rescued.
Very sweet dog, gets along fine with other dogs (small and large ones) does not appear cat aggressive (if the cat is playful and prone to running--she might run after it, but has not show herself to attack, currently in a foster home with cats). She is ultimately a PEOPLE dog and prefers to climb into your lap and lean into your legs above all activities. Since being rescued, she has shown that she does a good "sit" command, walks decently on-leash. Riding in the car, she does okay, will occasionally nudge you on the back of the head to see if you will let in the front seat (we vote for NO due to safety).
Overall, she's basically the proverbial teenage husky at about 18 months, she's learning manners now. She has skills too, among them knowing how to open door handles and scaling dog gates the kind that are placed across doorways (if you have one it has to be at over 4 feet high). She is housebroken and if kept on a regular feeding schedule, should be fine inside. She is currently on a grain free dry dog food diet, which she appears to do fine on, fed twice a day, and has access to water all day long. Kept indoors in spare room, does ok. Can free roam when people are home.
Someone shaved her at one point--you NEVER shave a husky it can ruin the coat. The fur actually helps keep them cool in summer. The fur is growing back in, hopefully it will be even. Whomever had this girl at one point--neglected a LOT of the basics and did the wrong things with caring for this breed. Mistakenly, people get these dogs and think "they must be hot" (especially in Texas) or they are just lazy and do not want to brush them out, so they shave them down. Huskies shed 2 times a year, if you brush them out weekly, bathe twice a month, it is not an issue. If you do not want to brush out a dog, this is not a breed for you.
Looking for a loving indoors home for her. Family should have husky experience (or similar such as with German Shepherds or Labradors)--NO apartments, must have a fenced yard for outdoor time. She is happy being a lap dog but she is also an active dog who will need a good outlet for burning off some energy. (Regular walks, if you run, hike, etc. all great outlets). A family with older children (10 years and up) is fine, a buddy dog is okay, as long as the family understands how to properly introduce and is prepared to care for two dogs. There will be a home visit and vet references are required. Her adoption fee is $125. Questions can be sent to 1forthedogs@gmail.com. No meetings will take place without a completed adoption application.
