Siberian Husky, female, spayed, approx, 18 months old, 45 lbs, heartworm negative, current on all vaccines, microchipped.

Very vocal in the husky way.  She is good with large and small dogs, child-friendly, cat curious but not aggressive with them, crate-trained, and kept on a feeding schedule does fine with potty routine. Walks decently on-leash, likes to ride in the passenger seat in the car, extremely sweet, playful, smart, and affectionate.  She is a "leaner" and will lean into your body when standing next to you, if you are sitting down and she wants attention, she will butt your leg with her head until you pay attention.

She is used to being crated and does fine in it, likes rawhide chews, and climbing into laps.  An ideal home will be with an active loving person/family who has experience with huskies or "working breeds" like Labradors, German Shepherds, etc., she is not a dog for a first time pet parent. She is used to being kept indoors and her potential adoptive family should be willing to do the same.  For times that she is outside, the home must have a fenced in yard, no wrought iron fencing with gaps, fencing should be in good condition and at least six feet in height.  She is still somewhat "puppy-like" and will probably be so for awhile, as huskies tend to be proverbial teenagers to some extent, but she does very well when it is time to settle down for the evening.

Overall, Mariko is a pretty great furball who just wants to be with "her people" and play.  She will need someone who is willing to do some basic obedience training with her (sit, stay, etc.), but she should do okay as she sees it as a game, consistency and lots of love will get the right pet parent far with her.  A home with another dog to be a buddy with her would be great, children 8 years and older are fine as well as long as they understand how to be respectful with animals.

This breed requires regular brushing at least 2-3 times a week, they will blow their coats (shed) heavily at least twice a year, they should NOT be shaved as it will ruin the coat. Huskies typically cannot be let off-leash as they usually do not have a strong sense of recalling to their owners, each Husky is unique, but please do your research on the breed so you know what you can basically expect if you are not familiar.  They are usually very friendly, social, and are not a breed meant to be alone nor are they "watch dogs".  Though affectionate and loving, they can be very "independent-minded", not a dog to be left alone in a backyard to its own devices-needs mental stimulation and to be a part of the family unit.

Adoption fee is $150.  If seriously interested in adoption, please complete a dog adoption application by going here: http://tomballsos.rescuegroups.org/forms/
